New rates as of April 2025
Microsoft Power BI has been an essential tool in data analysis and visualization for more than 350,000 organizations and millions of developers globally. Over the past 10 years, Power BI has evolved significantly, improving its sales analysis capabilities, data segmentation, and offering advanced features such as Power BI KPIs and Power BI calendar charting. This 2024, Power BI announces an update to its pricing structure for Power BI Pro and Premium Per User (PPU) licenses effective April 2025.
Power BI Pro and Power BI Premium per user update their rates
As of April 1, 2025, Power BI Pro rates will be set at USD 14 per user per month, while PPU licenses will be USD 24 per user per month. These prices apply to both new users and existing customers renewing their licenses, and will be adjusted to local rates in various currencies.
The evolution of power BI since 2015
Since its launch in 2015, Power BI has been one of the leading tools in the Business Intelligence (BI) world. With more than 1,500 updates deployed over the past few years, Power BI has transformed how organizations leverage data for strategic decision making. Some of the key features that have been incorporated include the ability to embed Power BI into PowerPoint, the use of Power BI Desktop to create interactive reports, and the handling of more complex data sources.
Among its main improvements, we can highlight:
1. Power BI for Report Server, which allows you to deploy internal reports in an efficient way.
2. Power BI's refreshability, with faster refresh rates and integration with data sources such as Excel from SharePoint.
3. Advances in the creation of Power BI filters, facilitating more accurate and efficient data segmentation.
4. The possibility of displaying values and percentages in Power BI bar charts, which improves the visualization of results in real time.
5. Tabular Editor Power BI, which allows you to edit complex data models in an intuitive way.
What's new in Power BI Premium per user license
The Premium Per User (PPU) option, launched in 2021, provides users with access to advanced features, such as connection to more than 100 data sources and integration with Microsoft productivity tools. In addition, PPU users can take advantage of larger models and more frequent data refreshes. This license offers a flexible and cost-effective solution for those who need large-scale BI capabilities without resorting to purchasing full organization-wide licenses.
How the price change will affect existing users
If you are an existing Power BI Pro or PPU user, it is important to be aware that the pricing update will affect your renewal as of April 2025. Customers with a Power BI Enterprise Agreement (EA) will be able to continue to maintain their current pricing until their contract renewal.
If you are a Microsoft 365 E5 or Office 365 E5 customer, there will be no changes to Power BI pricing within these plans, allowing you to continue to enjoy the functionality of Power BI as a data analysis tool without cost changes.
Power BI remains committed to innovation and refinement of its functionality. In the coming months, new features will be released, including improved options for Power BI sales analysis, advances in Power Query, and more options for Power BI KPI visualization. In addition, you can learn about all of these new features by attending the Microsoft Ignite event in November 2024, where the latest innovations in the field of data analytics will be presented.
