The Council adopted a regulation setting stricter CO2 emission performance standards for new passenger cars and vans in line with the Union's enhanced climate ambition.
The Regulation aims to amend Regulation (EU) 2019/631 to:
>Reducing emissions from road transport, which has the largest share of transport emissions.
>Providing the right impetus for the automotive industry to shift towards zero-emission mobility, while ensuring continued innovation in the industry.
The new rules establish the following objectives:
>55% reduction in CO2 emissions for new cars and 50% for new vans from 2030 to 2034 compared to 2021 levels.
>100% reduction of CO2 emissions for both new passenger cars and vans from 2035 onward
